Already last year, the Taiwanese-Colombian duo Fao Torres and Ya Chien Lin were among the audience favorites. This time they present pieces from their new album "EARTH" - polyrhythmic soundscapes interweave with visuals and powerful playing on frame drums, handpan and percussion.

The Coşkun Percussion Duo plays virtuosic swirling rhythms and gripping grooves with an ease and fresh joy of acoustic and "handmade" music.

Together the two duos open the 18th Tamburi Mundi Festival and for the people in the hall this means: listen, watch and... participate!

The evening shows the magic of percussion, invited three masters of their profession. The music is as rich in contrast as it is connected in style, sensitively tracking down the nuances.

Zohar Fresco (Israel), Khayrullo Dadoboev (Tajikistan), Jarrod Cagwin (USA) feed their art from different roots, go their own strong ways, equally compelling in expression, spiritual and innovative. One evening, three exceptional percussionists!

Zohar Fresco, Israeli percussionist with Turkish roots, best known as co-founder of the Israeli-Arab band project Bustan Abraham, has expanded his extraordinarily intricate and technical playing to include palpable influences from India, and has developed a distinctively unique style that has gained worldwide recognition and is taught in Haifa.

Khayrullo Dadoboev, Doyra virtuoso from Central Asia, opened himself to the great world of percussion like hardly any other drum master from this cultural area. His musicality and sensitive manner are captivating, along with his incredibly acrobatic mastery of his instruments.

Jarrod Cagwin, an internationally known U.S. jazz drummer, has become more and more deeply "entangled" in the art of frame drumming through numerous trips to Turkey, North and West Africa and stays in oriental countries, and has shaped a new style. Not least as a band member of Rabih Abou-Khalil Jarrod is touring worldwide and for the first time face-to-face at the Tamburi Mundi Festival!

The combination of frame drums and voice has a magic all of its own.
Three duo formations are on the E-Werk stage and fill the theme of the evening with life.

Duo Nisia
Emanuela Lodato - tamburello, tamorra, voice
Vincent Noiret - chittara battente, double bass

Sicilian percussionist and singer Emanuela Lodato is the voice of the Belgian-Italian duo NISIA. Inspired by early music and the musical traditions of Sicily, Calabria and the region around Naples, they have found their own unique style with their lively compositions.

Milo ke Mandarini
Isabel Martín – frame drum, pandereta, voice
Carlos Ramirez – hurdy-gurdy, kretian lyra, lavta

The Spanish musicians Isabel Martín and Carlos Ramirez, known from the formation Milo ke Mandarini, trace in their music the roots of Mediterranean musical cultures and combine them with their own Iberian tradition. Their program includes Sephardic songs, traditional melodies from the Mediterranean region and original compositions inspired by them, which they present on various traditional instruments with palpable passion.

Duo Adrian Ils & Karin Fleck
Adrian Ils - frame drum, voice
Karin Fleck - accordion

In the Freiburg-Cologne connection Adrian Ils & Karin Fleck Ils brings with his lyrics the big themes of life into the very small of everyday life, where they can unfold their humor and poetry. The Freiburg accordionist Karin Fleck sets her own accents in this special program and proves how keys, skin and voice complement each other wonderfully.

The Tamburi Mundi Frame Drum Ensemble, under the direction of Murat Coşkun, is composed of members from all over Germany and once again demonstrates the range and complexity of rhythm, sound and percussion.
