Spend a day immersing yourself in the world of the frame drum with Glen Velez, the founder of the modern frame drum movement! In this intensive course, Glen works with rhythmic exercises in 7/4 time, drawing on rhythmic concepts from various musical traditions: shuffles (which form the rhythmic foundation of Western blues and jazz) and tihaïs (mathematically precise rhythmic closing phrases from classical Indian music). The playing position is seated “on-the-knee”; at times, we’ll use brushes to play. Sufficient brushes will be provided.
