"Microtiming in traditional Grooves" with Robbe Kieckens

Tamburi Mundi is delighted to have the versatile Belgian percussionist Robbe Kieckens on the program in 2026 for the 2nd time!

In this workshop, we will explore grooves from around the world that feature uneven subdivision or ‘swing’.
From various Gnawa rhythms to Persian 6/8 rhythms to Afghan Moguli – all use a specific timing of the upbeats to convey a certain feeling. 


In addition to exploring different grooves, we will discuss the various reasons for this type of subdivision, how to understand the principles, and what feelings they evoke.

Level: Intermediate = good prior knowledge in playing frame drums
