Iberian Songs & Percussion - Isabel Martín

As a perfect combination for the "Iberian Songs and Percussion" workshop,
Isabel will also offer a workshop on playing the square frame drum Pandero Cuadrado on April 11. Isabel Martín will bring new songs to each workshop, so you can attend both workshops!
Date: 08.04.26, 3.30 - 5.30 pm
Lecturer: Isabel Martín (Spain)
Instruments:

Frame drums, Panderetta, Pandero Cuadrado
(Some instruments are available to borrow; please indicate during registration if needed!)

You can also order instruments directly from drum maker Carlos Ramirez through Isabel, with delivery available before the course begins.

Content of the course:

In this workshop, you will learn traditional songs, singing techniques, and embellishments that belong to the diverse repertoire of the Iberian Peninsula, depending on geography and context. We will accompany this repertoire with some percussion instruments such as the square drum and the tambourine.  But other frame drums are also welcome!

You will learn about the different rhythmic styles and technical versatility of these percussion instruments and get an impression of the traditional way of accompanying songs with frame drums.

Isabel Martín is a proven expert and sought-after performer of Spanish folklore thanks to her passionate field research in Spain and her direct contact with the people who have passed on this music over the decades.

Isabel has new songs for the 2026 festival! Anyone who has already attended a Tamburi Mundi workshop with her is in the right place, as are curious people who want to get to know Iberian songs and rhythms for the first time.

Course Language: English
Level: Open to all levels!
