Traditional Songs from Southern Italy Accompanied by Frame Drums - Emanuela Lodato

"Italian songs & frame drums" will be offered also in two further workshops:
24.04. with Bruno Spagna
Date: 24.04.24, 3.30-5.30 pm
Lecturer: Emanuela Lodato (Italy/ Belgium)
Instruments: Tamburello, Tamorra, frame drums (not so big and heavy) - if necessary, instruments can be borrowed, please be sure to specify when registering!
Course Content:

The workshop will focus on learning some songs from Southern Italy (Sicily, Puglia, Campania) and traditional rhythms, for accompanying the songs with the frame drum. These rhythms are usually played on "Tamburelli" or "Tammorre" with special techniques, but we will work together to adapt and arrange them for other types of frame drums.

The southern Italian techniques are a sophisticated and complete way of playing the tambourine. The tambourine belongs to the large family of tarantelle and is played to accompany dances and some traditional instruments such as the zampogna (Sicilian bagpipes), and songs.

Emanuela brings new songs! Anyone who has already attended a Tamburi Mundi workshop with her is in the right place here, as are those who are curious and want to get to know songs and rhythms from Emanuela's home country for the first time.

Course Language: English
Level: Open for all levels!
