Content of the course:

This course with Paolo Rossetti is a journey into the world of the Italian TAMBURELLO, including a traditional, classic and early music approach. We will also study some techniques from the TAMMORRA play to be applied.

  1. In the first part of the course, the basic techniques of traditional Tamburello will be introduced and practiced by an excursion into the Italian styles of drumming. Furthermore, we will study the TARANTELLA and the DUINA world composition.
  2. In the second part of the course, the techniques will be applied on the real repertoire of an orchestra, using different Italian frame drums like the Tammorra the Tamburello etc.
  3. The last part of the course will treat new beats and modern strokes.


Based on the focus of the first part, the topics will be as follows:

  • Tamburello: saltarello, pizzica, tarantella
  • Tammorra (Neapolitan folk): playing techniques on the Tammorra and a short introduction into the repertoire of the region.

The topic, "new beats, arrangement for tamburello virtuoso“ will be treated in the following way:

  • Tamburello: la tarantella moderna, modern playing techniques of the tamburello virtuoso and its use in a setup of modern percussion.
  • Modern beating techniques for arrangements in orchestras of Tamburello, Tammorra and Castanets.

Level: basic = little knowledge in tamburello playing

  • Lessons are held via zoom meeting. Some days before the start of the lessons we offer a free introduction into zoom. After registration we will send you more information.
