The Darbuka is the classical solo instrument in the Oriental music and captivates above all by its often very virtuoso vortex techniques.
The percussionist Philipp Kurzke from Freiburg (working as a lecturer amongst others at the Frame Drum Academy and the Musikwerkstatt Basel) teaches the basic striking techniques on the instrument using typical Darbuka rhythms. In particular, a simple system is taught enabling to learn further rhythms independently or even invent new ones.
In addition, variation techniques are presented, with which even simple solos become possible.
The partly very virtuous vortex techniques, which are so typical for the Darbuka, will also be introduced. However, the focus of this course is on learning the basic striking techniques and thus laying a solid foundation on which you can easily elaborate independently. And off course the group will have a lot of fun playing the drums together
