Artist in Residence 2021: Francesco Magarò (Italy)

We are so happy to present you this year´s artist in residence: FRANCESCO MAGARÒ! Francesco is a great musician, multi instrumentalist, percussionist, pianist and for a long time he has been part of the Tamburi Mundi musical family. He will enrich various concert programs with his music (as you can read below).

After the classical piano diploma in Conservatory and the University graduation in Artistic and Cultural heritage Marketing he begins to study tamburello with Checco Pallone in Cosenza, his home town in Italy. Then pursuing his focusing on frame drums with Andrea Piccioni, Zohar Fresco and Murat Coskun, attending also seminars with Glen Velez, Dave Boyd, Keyvan Chemirani, Bc Manjunath and others. In his path he integrates concepts and techniques belonging to the italian, indian, arabic, persian and western musical traditions working on a transversal approach. His interest in different languages and their comparison brings him to attend and reach a master’s degree in Musical Theory and Analysis. In 2018 he participates with Re-Orient group trio to the international Terem Crossover Competition in St. Petersburg, winning the special founder’s prize. He takes part to many festivals teaching and playing in Italy and abroad while continuing his academic research in Ethnomusicology as well.
