`TAMBURI MUNDI TÜRKIYE´
Tamburi Mundi International takes place in Turkey in 2010. For about a week, frame drummers and other musicians will meet in Cappadocia (central-Anatolia), the land of fairy-chimneys, the fascinating moon-landscapes, the mysterious subterranean cities and churches and the birth-place of anatolian mysticism through Yunus Emre. The countless tufa caves and the 1000 year old rock-churches of Cappadocia offer the possibility to experience the sound and the power of the frame drums more deeply. In this exceptional ambience, Tamburi Mundi and the `Cappadocia Academy for Arts and Culture´ have arranged workshops at different locations within the landscape: In caves, canyons, valleys, cliffs, holy places and old churches from the 6th century. Therefore a great variety of acoustics as well as visual experiences will result from it. Here are a few cappadocian impressions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apJSoAO7kL0 Besides the encounter with nature and local culture, the musical confrontation of participants from Europe, as well as musicians and dancers from Cappadocia are most definitely the priority in this festival. Besides the demonstrating and deepening of techniques on frame drums, the musical emphasis of the festival is above all performing music together. Pieces will be arranged, improvised and studied with musicians from Cappadocia. Afterwards, these pieces will then be presented together as a final concert at the village square.
Â
The following workshops are planned:
Frame drums (riqq, bendir): techniques, expansions, variations, soloistic performance of Turkish rhythms Davul-playing: techniques and rhythms Arrangement of pieces for frame drum and voice Kudüm (timpanis) and Sufi rhythms Sufi-music Sufi dance `Darbuka-Intensiv´ (separate additional booking),
At the moment, Murat Coskun as well as further musicians from Cappadocia are planned as teachers. Well known teachers from Turkey have also been asked for the Darbuka-Special (Intensiv-workshop). The more accurate program will be created before the end of December 2009 so that further teachers from Europe can be invited to balance the number of applications if necessary.
